Volunteering at Sirius College

Work experience (Pre-service Teacher): University students required to complete a teaching placement by their university can fulfill this requirement at our school.

Work Experience (Other Professions): University or TAFE students in other professions required to complete practical training or work experience as part of their educational or certification requirements can fulfill this requirement at our school.

Classroom Assistance: Parents can assist teachers in various classroom activities, such as organizing materials, supervising students, or helping with group work.

Field Trips: Parents can accompany students and teachers on field trips including excursions, sports excursions, and camps to ensure safety and provide additional supervision and support.

Library Support: Parents can help in the school library by shelving books, assisting students with finding materials, and organizing library events or book fairs.

Extracurricular Activities: Parents can volunteer to support extracurricular activities such as sports teams, clubs, music ensembles, drama productions, and art clubs.

School Events and Celebrations: Parents can volunteer to help organize and run school events such as fundraising activities, festivals, cultural celebrations, and graduation ceremonies.

Food Preparation: Parents can volunteer to prepare and serve food for school events and celebrations. (This requires the Food Safety Certificate)

Tutoring and Mentoring: Parents with expertise in specific subjects or skills can volunteer to tutor students or mentor them in areas such as academic subjects, career exploration, or personal development.

School Garden: Parents can assist with maintaining school gardens.

Special Events Coordination: Parents can help coordinate special events such as career days, science fairs, talent shows, community engagement events, and parent education workshops.

Administrative Support: Parents can provide administrative support to the school office, assisting with tasks such as organizing paperwork, assisting in the uniform shop on campus and assisting with incursion activities.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers may need to provide specific documentation and certificates related to their areas of contribution. Some documentations include:

Criteria 1 – Eligibility

  •   Working with Children Check (WWCC): All volunteers must possess a valid WWCC card throughout their commitment at Sirius College. More information can be found at this link. When completing your application, please include the following details:

      • Organisation Details: Sirius College
      • Child-related Work Field: 46 Educational - non-government schools (all primary, secondary, technical, and special schools)
      • Work Type: Volunteer
  • Identification Document: Volunteers must present a valid identity document, such as an Australian driver license, Australian passport, or overseas passport.

  • National Police Record Check: Some volunteer candidates may be requested to provide the National Police Record Check document. You may find further information at this link.
  • Food Safety Certificate: Volunteers who will be involved in the preparation and serving of food on or off-campus must adhere to the Food Safety and Handling Policy and hold a valid Food Safety Certificate. They may complete the online course “DoFoodSafely” available at http://dofoodsafely.health.vic.gov.au or attend other accredited Food Safety courses.
  • First Aid Certificates: While optional, volunteers may also possess First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis Management or other medical training certificates.
